Illness Prevention
The cold and flu season is in full effect, here are some things you can do to help protect your family…

Acupuncture, herbal medicine, fire cupping, moxa and other TCM modalities are some of the best ways to avoid the cold and flu and are great for illness prevention overall.
You have a protective layer of energy called Wei Qi. When your body is in harmony and balanced, your Wei Qi is strong, preventing illness.
However, when the body is depleted due to poor lifestyle choices such as lack of sleep, poor food or toxin exposure, the energy in your body is depleted or knocked out of balance. This depletes your Wei Qi, and pathogens can attack the body, causing illness. Acupuncture and other TCM treatments keep your immune system strong and and your energy balanced, making you an illness prevention machine.
Acupuncture works by stimulating production natural killer cells, which are white blood cells that can inhibit viruses from spreading. In addition, acupuncture can calm the mind and nervous system, which allows the body to restore and initiates cellular regeneration.
Certainly we want to limit exposure to pathogens by washing hands and avoiding sick people, but realistically, we are exposed to viruses and harmful bacteria daily. The true secret to stay healthy is keeping your immune system strong with herbs, acupuncture and other offerings at New Vibes.

The FDA has reported that this year’s flu is on track to be the worst in decades, here are some illness prevention tips to keep you and your family healthy:
- Wash your hands, thoroughly and often.
- Get plenty of rest, if you start to feel run down, or lethargic, listen to your body and get some sleep. Resting allows your body to fight against infections disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, “During sleep, your immune system releases proteins called cytokines, some of which help promote sleep. Certain cytokines need to increase when you have an infection or inflammation, or when you’re under stress. Sleep deprivation may decrease production of these protective cytokines. In addition, infection-fighting antibodies and cells are reduced during periods when you don’t get enough sleep.“
- Boost your immunity with herbs and diet. There are specific herbs that can help boost your immunity, including Echinacea and Andrographis, these may help to shorten the duration of the flu. Muscle testing is available to all of our patients during the time of service to determine which herbal medications will support each individual needs.
- Apples, citrus, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon all help to boost your immunity and well as reduce inflammation. Increasing the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables and eliminating processed and sugary foods will help keep your body strong to fight off infection and inflammation.
